ISMICS has been closely monitoring updates and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and from the World Health Organization (WHO) (including its declaration of a global pandemic), as well as from state and local governments (including states of emergencies and bans on gatherings). We have also been actively following travel advisories and restrictions being placed on hospitals and institutions, and we know that an ever-increasing number of our members are on the front lines facing the COVID-19 outbreak worldwide. Based on all of these factors, ISMICS has made the difficult but necessary decision to cancel its 2020 Annual Scientific Meeting, which was to have taken place 4-6 June 2020, in Warsaw, Poland.
This was an extremely difficult decision but one which we believe is in the best interests of our members, attendees, industry partners, and of course, our patients. Our hotel partner the Hilton Warsaw has worked with us in this trying time and we are pleased to be able to tell you that we have been able to rebook the hotel for June of 2021, and our Meeting will in fact be able to held in Warsaw next year from 17 to 19 June 2021.
Given the logistics that go into organizing a meeting of this size, ISMICS is not able to reschedule the 2020 Annual Meeting; however, in the coming weeks we intend to tap into the innovative spirit of our Society and we will work diligently to look towards virtual meeting options and to presenting these to you in the very near future.
